It's December 1939, and Superman is still a comics newcomer in this striking issue of Action Comics #19. Joe Shuster's impressive cover shows Superman ripping the turret off an enemy tank as the Man of Steel begins to make his transition from inspiring Great Depression hero to global good guy.
