Amazing Spider-Man #300 proves that a long-running title can keep generating top collectible keys with the first appearance of
Venom (after the previous issue's cameo). This vital issue also answers the big question of what happens when you pair a disgraced suicidal journalist with a vengeful homicidal alien. A bitter Eddie Brock discovers that merging with the alien symbiote is a real recipe for disaster. The good news is that Marvel whipped up one of the biggest debuts of this ongoing Modern Age for this milestone 300th issue, as Venom emerges via
Amazing Spider-Man scribe David Michelinie and writer/artist Todd McFarlane.
Venom, of course, will become a beloved anti-hero while also proving to be one of Spidey's greatest threats. The character has enjoyed a huge amount of success outside of
Amazing Spider-Man, appearing in numerous solo books and virtually every TV show or video game related to Spider-Man. Venom also easily became the most popular movie character in Sony's attempt to make movies set in a Spider-Man Universe without Spider-Man. After becoming the sole Sony villain to get his own trilogy of films, Venom has now been established as part of the Marvel Studios series of
Spider-Man films. That has fans eagerly anticipating a rebooting of Venom, as the alien's earliest appearances remain hot collectibles.
