Bernard Baily cover/art; Spectre cover (9/40) Comic Book Impact rating of 7 (CBI)There is something deeply disturbing about the Spectre, a superhero that resides in one of the darkest corners of the comic book world. It's tragic that the character is not presently more celebrated, as his grim and foreboding appearance commingle with an array of powers that are awesome and chilling all at once. The concept of an undead policeman, who is impervious to harm, reads minds, performs telekinetic feats, and can transmute into a ghostly form is an inspired mixture, one which could only have crawled out of the murky depths of comics' seamy older brother, the pulp magazine.
