A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTION Walt Simonson pencils and inks; Hardcover Slipcase Limited Edition w/original Beta Ray Bill drawing; 2012; image size 8.5" x 11.25"Extremely limited slipcased hardcover edition of Walt Simonson's The Mighty Thor Artist's Edition. Only ten copies of this edition were made available, and sold out instantly, each featuring an original drawing by Simonson on the cover. This drawing, maybe the finest of the batch, has Simonson revisiting his original Beta Ray Bill promotional poster image that was released to comic shops in advance of Thor #337. Pena nd ink. Art, book, and slipcase are in in excellent condition. Signed and dated by Simonson.
From Simonson's Facebook page at the time the drawing was created...
"Because of the nature of the drawing request, a revisiting of my very first drawing of Beta Ray Bill, done for a promotional poster, I decided to ink this drawing with a crow quill pen instead of a brush.
I also opted to erase the drawing cleanly rather than leaving some of the pencil behind." Artist Information
Walt Simonson is a hugely influential writer/artist who rose to prominence at DC in the 1970's on various War titles and The Metal Men, it was his work on the Detective Comics back-up feature Manhunter with Archie Goodwin that made readers take notice. He would go on to Marvel where he would draw the X-Men/New Teen Titans crossover and have a groundbreaking run on Thor that is considered one of the finest in the long history of the title. He would go on to work on X-Factor, Fantastic Four, and a host of other titles. His own creation, The Star Slammers is a series he has returned to periodically throughout his career, most recently with IDW.
