July 30: Event Auction 59: First Look at the Ruben Blades Collection!

ComicConnect is still in the midst of the July Mega Monthly Auction, but there's already plenty to preview for the upcoming Event Auction 59 with our first look at the Ruben Blades Collection! In addition to decades as a popular musician and actor, Blades has been a prominent figure in the comics community as a collector of Golden Age titles. EA59 will include his Detective Comics run featuring Batman’s legendary debut in Detective #27, the classic Detective #31, and precious pre-Batman issues going back to Detective Comics #1.

That’s in addition to fabulous firsts such as Sensation Comics #1, Flash Comics #1, and the greatness of Alex Schomburg’s WWII cover for All Select #1. Fans will also find an astonishing amount of ultra-scarce Golden Age gems as part of the Ruben Blades Collection. Rare investment opportunities include a sensational run of Catman Comics, plus a Punch Comics #12, a striking Suspense Comics #3, and an impressively unrestored Green Giant Comics #1 at 6.0. ComicConnect couldn’t be prouder to be part of Ruben Blades’ preservation of this outstanding selection of Golden Age greatness!

MAY 22: ComicConnect Event Auction 58 Grows with Golden Age Greats and Original Art

ComicConnect has brought even more stellar lots into Event Auction 58 — after adding an Action Comics #1 in the wake of a record-breaking EA57 that set an all-grade sales high for Batman’s debut in Detective #27!

Superman’s industry-shaking first appearance is now joined by an investment-level Superman #1 that reveals how the classic cover looks sensational at any grade. EA58 also has the ultra-scarce introduction of Wonder Woman in All Star Comics #8 at a striking 5.5. Other impressive Golden Age adds include Detective Comics #31 at a bold 5.0. There’s underwater action with Prince Namor in a wild battle cover from a 5.5 Sub-Mariner Comics #18, and Superman stopping a sub in Action Comics #15 at 7.0. A dazzling Modern Age debut joins the ranks as a 9.8 Batman: Harley Quinn signed by Alex Ross in the CGC Signature Series.

EA58 continues to add amazing new original art, as well. Our Frank Frazetta selection began with a stunning page from Thun’da, King of the Congo #1. Now we’re proud to offer gorgeous early sketches from the Master, including the start of his Ace paperback cover for Edgar Rice Burroughs’ The Land of Hidden Men. Carl Barks and Peter Ledger shine in colorful pages from 1981’s Uncle Scrooge McDuck: His Life and Times.  After offering John Byrn’s first sketch of Wolverine from Iron Fist #15, we have a Byrne recreation of his classic cover for Wolverine #1. There’s also Bronze Age battling with Paul Galucy’s rendering of a vicious Fu Manchu from Giant-Size Master of Kung-Fu #3.

EA58 launches on June 3rd, with sessions closing from June 24-28 — visit ComicConnect.com to follow all our upcoming auctions and the latest Fixed Price finds, plus weekly Wednesday Whatnot sales, convention appearances, and our latest videos!

APRIL 24, 2024: ComicConnect Builds Up Event Auction 58 as April Mega Monthly Continues

ComicConnect is announcing more outstanding items for their upcoming Event Auction 58, even as the world’s premier auction house for vintage comics and original art continues the April 2024 Mega Monthly Auction—with over 2,000 lots up for bid, featuring over 1,200 certified books from across the Comic Ages!

After a record-breaking EA57 that set an all-grade sales high of $1,825,088 for Detective #27,  EA58 continues to line up even more outstanding Golden Age titles. All Star Comics #3, which made comics history with the first gathering of the Justice Society of America, is strikingly preserved at a colorful 5.5. Holiday history gets made with Archie Andrews’ first Christmas story hidden behind the slam-bang cover of an extremely scarce 8.5 Jackpot Comics #7. That’s in addition to Lou Fine’s legendary penciling debut for the barely-released Wonder Comics #2, Robin the Boy Wonder’s first appearance in a 5.0 Detective Comics #38and Adventure Comics #45 and More Fun Comics #31 (with Superman’s first published appearance) both at a CGC Census-topping 9.6.

Silver Age fans can relive the start of the era through an exceptional 6.5 Showcase #4 featuring Barry Allen’s introduction as the Flash, along with the dawn of mutant mayhem with a 6.5 X-Men #1.  Others are already speculating on investment-level copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 at 3.5 and a vivid 3.0 Fantastic Four #1. The auction’s Bronze Age beauties remain ruled by a spectacular Giant-Size X-Men #1 topping the CGC census at 9.9, but there’s competition from the new team’s title takeover in a stunning 9.8 X-Men #94 and the Punisher in a 9.6 Amazing Spider-Man #129 CGC Signature Series signed by Stan Lee.

EA58’s outstanding original art collection also keeps growing. In addition to Adam Kubert’s depiction of Wolverine’s wild first meeting with Deadpool in Wolverine #88, the auction has John Byrne’s first Wolverine illustration (with inks by Dan Green) in an explosive half-splash for Iron Fist #15. Wallace Wood’s sci-fi mastery is showcased in an alien vista from his classic tale “The Cosmic All,” as featured in Creepy #38. Other acquisitions include an action-packed page from Werewolf By Night #5 (as the only issue where Mike Ploog inked his own pencils), plus John Romita Sr.’s signed cover for Nightshade’s memorable debut in Captain America #164 and Frank Miller & Al Milgrom’s brutal cover for Morpheus’ first appearance in Moon Knight #12.

The final deadline for EA58 consignments is May 20th. ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo and staffers will be at Booth #1427 of the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo from April 26-28, continuing to invest millions of dollars working with consignors and offering interest-free cash advances for original art, comics, and pulps. Sellers can reach out through peterb@comicconnect.com, and calls are always welcome at 212-260-4147 or 888-779-7377or reach ComicConnect on the C2E2 floor at 917-806-2099!
